FOREWORD

The main theme of this book by author David Bernard (UPCI GS) is how Apostolic Pentecostals should live and how the Apostolic Pentecostal church should minister in a diverse, postmodern world.

FIRST SECTION: “DEVELOPING AN APOSTOLIC WORLD VIEW”

(Positions the Apostolic movement in contrast to other historical and contemporary Christian movements. Identifies the essential elements of an Apostolic worldview.)

Topic: “ANG ATING APOSTOLIKONG KATANGIAN.”

(Our Apostolic Distinctives)

What is distinctive about the Apostolic or Oneness Pentecostal movement? Ano ang ating mga kaibahan sa ibat-ibang grupong Kristiyano?

Makikita ang original Christian church in the New Testament, na binubuo ng apat na bahagi:

1. The Gospels present Jesus Christ, ang Siyang naglagay ng pundasyon para sa church by His life, ministry, death, burial, and resurrection.
2. The Book of Acts ay naghahayag ng pagkasilang at pagkabuo ng New Testament church, kasama ng iba pang mga local congregations sa Mediterranean (Asia, Africa at Europe) nung unang siglo.
3. The Epistles are instructions o mga liham sa mga church,
4. Book of Revelation ay isang prophetic message para sa Iglesia.

• Ang twenty-seven books na ito ay sinulat nuong unang siglo ng mga apostol, mga original na leaders na pinili ni Lord Jesus Christ, at iba pang mga kasama.
• Kaya ang mga ito ay may apostolic authority at nagbibigay ng tiyak na larawan ng church na itinayo ni Jesus Christ sa pamamagitan ng Kanyang mga apostoles.

1. TRADITION

3. RESTORATION

The Pattern o Halimbawa ng Unang Church

Sa Acts 2 ipinapakita ang original church sa Jerusalem bilang modelo para sa church sa kasalukuyan. We can identify at least six elements para ipanauli at tularan (restore and emulate).

• Ang Apostolic experience (2:4, 17-18, 41).

• Ang Apostolic Message (2:42). • Ang Prayer at praise (2:42, 46 47): vertical o tuwirang na pakikipag relasyon sa Diyos.

• Mga Signs and wonders, kasama ang spiritual gifts (2:43).

• Evangelism at church growth (2:47).

A First-Century Church in the Twenty-First Century

Ang kultura ngayon ay hayag na sekular, post-Christian, at postmodern, na ang ibig sabihin ay marami ang kumikilala sa truth bilang nababatay sa; o nakasalalay sa isang kaisipan o tinatanggap na katuruan. How should Christians relate to such a culture? We can identify at least five contemporary approaches. (Hindi ito para maliiitin o siraan ang ibang katuraan)

Contemporary Approaches:

• Fundamentalist. Ang approach na ito ay inemphasize ang authority ng Bible subalit hindi binibugyang diin ang pagkilos ng Banal na Espito.

• Liberal. Ito naman ay niyayakap ang kahalagahan ng secular culture.

• Charismatic. This approach commendably offers an experience with God subalit hindi inaasahan ang matibay na pagtindig sa strong doctrinal or lifestyle commitments.

• Emergent. Ito naman ay nag-accommodate sa postmodernism sa pamamagitan ng di pagbibigay katiyakan sa kapamahalaan (authority) at pagtanggap sa mga kaparaanang may kinalaman sa kultura.

• Apostolic. Instead of the foregoing approaches, nais nila ng Bagong alak sa mga bagong sisidlan (Mark 2:22).

Ang Apostolikong Pandaigdigang Pananaw

Sa pagtatapos, ang mga Oneness Pentecostals ay pinanghahawakan ang mga sumusunod na distinctive views na kakaiba sa pananawng karamihan. Ang resulta ay isang kakaibang Apostolic worldview at paraan ng pamumuhay.

Core Apostolic Beliefs:

• There is one true God, our Creator and Father.

• Jesus Christ is the one true God na nahayag sa laman upang maging ating tagapagligtas. As the Son of God, Siya sa may dalawang kapahayagan, Diyos na totoo, at taong totoo.

• The Bible is God’s Word.

• Apostolic authority (Pagpapanumbalik).

• Salvation is by grace through faith and includes the new birth according to Acts 2:38, specifically, repentance from sin, water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking in tongues.

• We are to pursue the new life of holiness through the power of the Holy Spirit. Ang Holiness ay panloob at panlabas, personal at social. Marapat tayong sumunod sa mga practical na katuruan ng Bagong Tipan sa lahat ng aspeto ng ating buhay kasama ang paguugali, pakikipag relasyon, pananalita, pananamit, at pang araw-araw na pamumuhay.

• The Holy Spirit is God at work in our lives today. We can and should walk in the Spirit, Laging mapuspos ng Spirit, mamunga ng spiritual fruit, at gamitin ang spiritual gifts.

• We must have an experience and a testimony na naayon o match sa ating mensahe.
